There's no escaping it the environment has become the number one issue facing human beings. How we tackle the problem will be a test of mankind. So, what can we do as individuals? One of the simplest and easiest ways to protect the environment is to do away with plastic bags and opt for canvas bags. The world uses between 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags a year with the figure set to grow as India and China's middle classes expand. In America alone we use close to 150 billion bags are year, which costs retailers an estimated $4 billion, this cost is passed indirectly onto consumers. The cost to the environment is even larger. Whether you choose paper or plastic over canvas the effects to the environment are still the same. Each year millions of tress are cut down to make paper bags, the process is costly and taxing on the environment. Plastic bags are even worse, they're non biodegrade, and they sit in landfills contaminating the soil and waterways.

The latest trend on the streets of New York and LA is canvas bags. From celebrities to millionaires the canvas bag is the hot new accessory and it seems to be catching on across the nation. I find canvas bags excellent, not only do they carry more resulting in not having to double bag items but, you can use them for a wide range of activities. I use my bag for trips to the beach, going to the gym, carrying my laptop and carrying text books. Before you know it you'll be like me and get angry when you forget to pack your canvas and you have to use a plastic bag.

Canvas bags come in a number of different styles, shapes and colors. And, both sexes can pull off using a canvas bag as I've seen some really cool styles produced for men.
