Guide to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimisation, or SEO as it is better known in the internet marketing world, has always been something a great importance to the internet community. Most internet users don't need to be aware of what it is or what the benefits or it are, but for anyone who is looking to run a successful site; this is something that cannot be forgotten or ignored.

So what is SEO? It is the process by which you optimize your website in order to get good ranking in the major search engines. The better your ranking with the search engines the more traffic and volume you will have to your website that will ultimately lead to more sales and more money for you. (search engines such as Google and yahoo.)

So what do you need to do to get good rankings?

First, you must make the title of your website relevant. This is the most important element of your website. The title appears in the browser bar and in the HTML it is wrapped in. This title text is what your potential readers will see when your website appears in the search engines.

Also you must have keyword rich content or text. Look at it this way...if you have a website that is selling golf equipment like clubs, balls, glove and so on. However your website text is filled with information that has to do with dating and how to get your girlfriend back, you will not rank well in the search engines because your text and content does not match what you are supposed to be selling. So when a potential buyer searches for "golf equipment" in the search engine, your page will not rank well or even be included in the search because your website it actually about something totally different. This is why it is important to include keywords that are relevant to what you are selling in with the text you have on your site.

There are so many things to consider when performing SEO for your website. This article gives you good insight to what the search engines are looking for when they search for sites that match what the customer is looking for.
